15 Grammar and usage

  老师:Good morning, boys and girls. Welcome to my class. Today our topic is grammar and usage of Book 5, Unit 3, present, perfect, continuous tense. Before our class, let's have a brief understanding of the learning objectives of this class. The first step, I will introduce the concept of present, perfect continuous tense. Step two, the instruction of the structure. Step 3, tell something about the usage of the grammar. Step four, some time expressions or markers used in present perfect continuous tense.

  老师:Step 5, we will draw the distinction between present, perfect continuous tense and present perfect tense. Step 6, I will introduce some matters need attention when we use grammar. Then the last step, we will have some practice to consolidate what we have Learned. And we all know there are 12 verb tenses in English language. These are simple present, simple past, simple future, present, perfect past, perfect future, perfect. Present, progressive, past, progressive, future, progressive, present, perfect, continuous tense. Past, perfect, continuous tense. Future, perfect, continuous tense. And the grammar we will talk about today is present, perfect, continuous tense.

  老师:Now let's focus on the first part, the concept. It indicates an action that continued from some time, the past to the present, and is likely to continue. I will give you some examples, and I think you can clearly figure them out.

  老师:The first one, I am reading the book. Can you guess the grammar? Yes, present, progressive. The second one, I have read the book, present, perfect tense. Third one, I have been reading the book, present, perfect, continuous tense. And the first one, present, progressive, means the action is happening. The second one, present, perfect tense, means the action completed. The third one, present, a perfect, continuous tense, means the action is still in progress.

  老师:Now, this time, open your books 10 to page 34. Read the short story of a girl who is equipped with a robotic hand, and try to find the sentences that use a present, perfect, continuous tense.

  老师:All right, let's check it. And the first one has been done for you. The second one, the third one. Have you got the right answer, so we can work out the rules.

  老师:First one, we use the present perfect continuous tense to talk about an action that started in the past and is still continuing now, or an action that has just finished, but is still connected with the present in some way.

  老师:Second one, the verb form of the present perfect continuous tense is has or have been doing. Okay, let's come to the second part, the structure. The first type is positive sentence that is, has or have been doing. So now let's try to fill in the blanks. I think it's quite easy for you.
