  老师:Hello, everyone. Welcome to my English class. My name is Zhao Jie. I'm working in Beijing, number four. high school fangshan campus。 This is the fifth period of Unit 2, making a difference. This lesson centers on writing a biography. One dictionary defines biography as an account of a person's life by another. That means you're going to complete a brief written history of a person's life. Who's gonna play the big role in our class today? You will soon find it out from the picture in the next slide. Here is the picture. I'm sure you definitely know who she is.

  老师:Her name is to Yoyo. Tuyoyo is a Chinese medical scientist best known for discovering qinghusu used to treat malaria. For her work, two received the 2011 last year award in Clinical Medicine and the 2015 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. 2 is the first native Chinese ever to win the Nobel Prize in sizes and Lascar Award in history, who was educated in China and whose work was carried out within China.

  老师:Want to know more about her? I will show you a video which explains how she made the discovery of Qinghao Su during her experimental research. Watch it and take notes if necessary.

  学生:The 2011 Lasker Debeki Clinical Medical Research Award honors two you for the discovery of artemisinin, a drug therapy for malaria that has saved millions of lives across the globe, especially in the developing world.

  学生:Combing through the ancient texts of traditional Chinese medicine and folk remedies, Professor Tu Yu searches for possible remedies. She collects 2000 potential recipes. Finally focusing on 380 extracts from 200 herbs, Professor Tu Youyou finds the extract from qinghao or Artemisia annua, commonly referred to as sweet wormwood, is noted in the Handbook of prescriptions for emergencies as a potential remedy for malaria.

  学生:Returning to the details given in Gehong's Handbook, Professor Tu Youyou realizes the standard procedure of high temperature extraction may be destroying the active ingredient in the Artemisia plant.
