  老师:Before we start to read the whole passage, there is a very important reading strategy that is prediction. Usually when we come across a new passage, the first thing we need to pay attention to is the title. From the title, we can try to predict what the passage may talk about. This will help us understand the passage better.

  老师:Let's look at the title of this passage. So close, yet so far. What do you think the passage might talk about? Well, there are two important words in the title, close and far. So the passage might be about something which can both draw something close and drive it far, to help you predict the topic. Well, I also have two questions for you. 1St, what can make people far away stay close? And second, what can make close friends become unfamiliar? Well, the answer might be the internet. Do you think internet is the topic of the passage? Let's read the first paragraph to check it out. Mark never stops socializing with his friends online, but he has also never felt more alone. Yes, the internet is what this passage is going to talk about. So we got it right. See, using the title to predict the topic of the passage help us grasp the main idea of the passage.

  老师:Before we start to read a passage, let's go over some new words together. I will show you some sentences from the passage. First one, I'm way beyond a shy or reserved person. I'm sure you don't need to look it up in a dictionary. You can just have a wild guess of the meaning of reserved. But I've just prepared the explanation for you. Reserved, it is an adjective. It means shy or unwilling to expressed your emotions or talk about your problems. We will talk about how to guess the meaning of new words from the contacts in the next period. Okay, let's just focus on this explanation. And the second sentence, I'm still scrolling through my friends silly post and photos.

  老师:Scroll. It is a intransitive verb. It means to move information on a computer screen up and down so that you can read it. That's all about the second sentence. Let's move on to the third one.
