  老师:Hello everyone. Welcome to my class. Today we will continue to learn Unit 4 history and traditions. In this class, you will read a text about the history of the UK and sort out the detailed information, introduce the history of the UK according to the timeline.

  老师:Let's begin. First, please look at the map on page forty. In the map, we can see some names of places, some different colors and the symbols. For example, some small circles and a red spot. So what does the map show? What do the different symbols and colors stand for? Think for a while and share with us.

  老师:What does the map show? Right. The map shows the British Isles, the islands which make up the Great Britain, England, Scotland and Wales. And Ireland. Ireland and Northern Ireland. It also shows four different countries that make up the UK and some of the major cities.

  老师:And what do the different symbols and colors stand for? As we can see, these small circles stand for big cities. For example, Oxford, Cambridge, Hastings. And the Red Spot stand for the capital of the UK. And these different colors stand for different regions and countries.

  老师:So from the map, can you tell how many parts make up the UK? As you can see, there are four colors which stand for four parts. What are they? Right? They are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  老师:Now please turn to page forty. Before you read the text, please look at the title first. What's in a name? What message can you get from the title? What might the text be mainly about? Think for a while and share with us personally. I think maybe it will talk about the name of something based on the information we got from the map. Maybe it will talk about the name of a country. What's your opinion?

  老师:Now let's read the text for the first time and find out what the text is mainly about. Finished. Now let's read the text together and find out. In paragraph 1, the author says, the United Kingdom, Great Britain, Britain, England. Many people are confused about what these different names mean. So what is the difference between them, if any? Getting to know a little bit about British history will help you solve this puzzle.

  老师:In this paragraph, the author mentioned four different names, the United Kingdom, Great Britain, Britain, England. Do you know the difference of these 4 names? Think for a while and share with us. Maybe some students are confused about their difference, too. It doesn't matter.
