  老师:Hello, everyone. Welcome to my class. In this class, you will be aware that there are different kinds of English. Learn about the differences in vocabulary and spelling between British and American English, and you will make a conversation on asking for clarification.

  老师:First of all, let's review what we Learned in the first period. Do you still remember which language has the most native speakers in the world? English, Spanish or Chinese? Yes, Chinese, because China has the largest population all over the world. Then how about English? Does it have the second largest number of native speakers in the world? No. We were told in the first period that it comes the third after Spanish. However, English is still spoken in a lot of countries and by a large number of people. Do you think these people speak the same kind of English? Probably yes, probably no. Let's find out the answer together.   学生:Of English mentioned? Listening part one. As many countries speak English as a first language, there are many different kinds of English around the world. British English, American English, Australian English, and many others. Some English learners might ask, can English speakers from different countries all understand each other? The answer is yes. People in these countries can usually understand each other with very few problems. There are differences in vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar but those are usually not big problems. However, those differences can cause confusion for non native English speakers. For example, a student who has Learned British English might not be familiar with the different vocabulary that an American might use. Listen to this conversation between a foreign language student and her American classmate.

  老师:Okay, what are they? Yes, great. They are British English, American English, Australian English and many others. Since there are different kinds of English, do you know in what ways they are different from each other? Are these differences great? And do people from these countries have problems in communicating with each other?
