  老师:Hello everyone. Welcome to Integrated Skills of Unit 1, discussing online news media. Actually, we read news every day to keep ourselves informed. How do you get news every day? You can have a discussion with your group members and exchange your ideas.

  老师:I mainly watch TV for news every day while having meals, as we students can find little time for it. I read newspapers in school newspaper gallery during the break between classes. I cover a lot of news stories through my mobile phone. There are large amounts of news, so I often read just the headlines, except the news that I'm particularly interested in.

  老师:Here is an article about the history of online news media on page 8 in our textbook. Read the article and fill in the following table. After finish it, you are supposed to check the answers with your partner.

  老师:Okay, now let's check the answers together. In the mid 1990s, some newspaper began to publish their own digital editions on the internet. So people can read the same content in both print and digital editions. By the end of 1999, about 1000 newspapers in China set up their own online news platforms and newspaper websites with no print editions spring up. What about the result? There were a wide range of stories and almost instant updates of news events and readers could post their own comments. Now in the smartphone era, news apps and official news media accounts appear on social media, with a total membership of over 700 million in China. So news could be read on mobile devices at any time and at any place.

  老师:Now let's try to summarize the development of online news media according to what we have Learned just now. The first question, how has online news media develop over time? And the second question, what information can you get from the chart? So firstly, let's try to retell the development of online news media by yourselves, according to the table we finish just now. And then retail it to your partner.
