12 Unit 3 Family matters(2)

  老师:Hello everyone, I'm Mr Wang from Liang Xiang High School, affiliated to Beijing Normal University. Welcome to this lesson. Today we are going to learn Book 1, unit 3, family matters, Lesson 2, using language, review tenses and physical appearances. Before we move to the using language part, let's see the objectives of this lesson. By the end of this class, you will be able to 1. Review and understand the form and usages of five tenses.

  老师:2. Use the five tenses correctly. 3. Describe physical appearances with words and expressions appropriately. Before we start, please review the reading passage, like father, like son, and retell what happened to the three family members who would like to have a try. Good. Let's welcome student A.

  学生:The play is about the conflicts the boy has with his father. The San doesn't plan to go to university. He wants to focus on his band and have a career in music because he thinks it suits his talents. But his father wants his son to go to university and be a lawyer. The father thinks that lawyers have people and are respected by others. The grandfather told the story that happened in the past when the boy's father made a choice of choosing the future job. The grandfather advises the boy and his father to calm down. Then he advises his grandson to go to university and play music at the same time. In this way, he can have two options for his future.

  老师:Well done. I think you have done a good job. Now please read the passage. Find the five sentences in Activity 1 on page 29 and decide which tense each is in and match the tenses to what they describe. Okay, time is up. Let's check your answers.

  老师:Sentence a. Grandfather and father seated at the table are playing chess. Here it uses a playing to describe something that is currently taking place. This tense, we call it present continuous.

  老师:Sentence B, lawyers help people and are respected by others. This sentence uses help to describe something that happens regularly in the present. And this tense, we call it simple present or present? Simple. In sentence C, you said that you wanted to be a professional football player. The sentence uses wanted to describe something that was completed in the past. We call this tense simple, past or past simple.

  老师:Sentence D. You have found the career that suits your talents. It uses have found to describe something that started in the past and is affecting the present. We call the tense present. Perfect.

  老师:The last sentence E. You will have two options for your future. Here. It uses will have to describe something that is certain to take place in the future. We call this tense simple future.
