老师：Hello, boys and girls. Welcome to our today's class.

老师：It's my great honor to get the opportunity to have today's class with you. Today we will start our learning of the Reading Club 2 of Unit 8. The title of it is the environment, a local and Global Issue.
老师：When we talk about the environment, we mean the air, water and land on the earth which is affected by man's activities. The natural features of a place, for example, is whether the type of land it has and the type of plants that grow in it. What about an issue?
老师：An issue means a subject or problem that is often discussed or argued about, especially a social or political matter that affects the interests of a lot of people. Here comes a question. What are the standards of a good environment where everyone of would enjoy ourselves? Can you think of some of the standards and share with us? What about we take a look at some pictures together? When we think about good environment, a picture like this usually comes to our mind. We all enjoy the environment with a pure and blue sky and with fresh air, and we expect there are clean water, green trees and grass. However, in many places of the world, the environment is being polluted. What are some environmental problems we are facing? Can you name some of the problems? Such as water pollution? Many sources of water were polluted, making clean water difficult to find. Trees in the forest were cut down and the originally green mountains become barren, leading to the destruction of forests. The amount of waste people produced are rising and they were thrown everywhere, polluting both soil and water. Air is also polluted. Heavy smog cover the sky, making fresh air impossible.
老师：These are making the environment a serious problem we need to focus on or a local and global issue we need to discuss. When we reflect on the past few years or even decades, we found that in many ways, life has become far more comfortable and convenient in the past few decades. However, this has come at a huge cost to the environment.
老师：Here we look at three of the most serious environmental problems we are currently facing. Please take out your textbook and turn to page 44, read the test quickly and find what are the three environmental problems discussed in the test. I'm sure you can find the answers quickly since you can see there are 3 subtitles, right? Scheming for subtitles is a very useful reading strategy to get the general idea quickly. So these problems are air pollution, global warming and overflowing landfields. Landfill means a place where waste is buried under the ground. In Chinese we call it, what about overflowing? It's an adjective. The root of it is flow. We usually say the water flows and a prefix over is
