  老师:Hello everyone, welcome to our English classroom. I am your teacher for today's lesson. I'm Chen Yao from the Experimental High School attached to Beijing Normal University. I feel greatly honored to teach you here and I do hope that my teaching today can be of some help to your English learning.

  老师:Today we are going to learn Lesson 2, Beijing Opera. In this period, you will learn something new about Beijing Opera and hopefully be able to introduce it to people from other countries. Okay, let's get started with the 4 main rows in Bay.

  老师:Beijing opera in Chinese, they are 生诞净丑。

  老师:But do you know how to describe them in English? Let me show you. Song. Common male rose. Female rose. Jing male rose with brightly painted masks. Clown Rose. Next, I'm going to show you pictures of each row and you give me their descriptions. Yes. Female rose. Clown Rose. Common male rose. Male rose with brightly painted masks. Good job. Let's continue with some new words. What is it? It is a Beijing Opera costume. Take a close look and you can see the decorative designs. We call them patterns. What are the two performers doing? They are performing acrobatics. I think it is difficult to master some complex actions of acrobatics. You may wonder what Beijing Opera has to do with acrobatics. Don't worry, later you will find it out.

  老师:Now let's have a quick review. Read the sentences and fill in the blanks with correct letters to complete each word. Number one, Beijing Opera performers wear costumes with different patterns when they perform on the stage. Number two, there's no doubt that it is difficult to master some complex actions of acrobatics. But remember, practice makes perfect. Next, let's go to the main part of today's lesson. You are going to listen to a radio program about Beijing Opera. Listen and take the aspects that are mentioned here. Aspect means Fang Mian.   学生:Doctor Liu, what is Beijing Opera and when did it start?

  学生:Well, Beijing Opera is a form of Chinese opera which combines acting, talking, singing, music, dancing and acrobatics together. And it started in the late 18th century.

  学生:Okay. It uses acting, talking, singing, music, dancing and acrobatics. All of those are difficult to master.

  学生:Yes. That's why it's one of China's national treasures.

  学生:Indeed. It is said that there are four roles Beijing Opera performers can play. What are they?
