老师:Hello, everyone. Welcome to my class. Have you ever dreamed of being a superhero, just like the prince killing dragons in the video games? Have you ever dreamed of taking a close look at the dinosaurs, appreciating their strength and beauty? Have you ever dreamed of playing in the ocean with a dolphin, but it's a pity that you cannot swim? These dreams seemed unrealistic in the past, but now they can be realized by advanced technology called virtual reality. In this class, we are to learn something about virtual reality, or we are, for short. Hopefully by the end of this section, you will be able to summarize the related information about VR, describe the future development, and express personal attitude to the future of it. To begin with, I'd like to know, have you ever heard of or use the VR? What do you know about it? It's all right if you have no idea about VR. Now let's watch a video clip shot via VR which gives a first person view of riding the roller coaster.

老师:How do you like it? Do you feel dizzy as if yourself are the person who's on the roller coaster? That's how I feel when I'm watching it. How amazing, isn't it? But we are he do more than that. Let's go together with Susan to explore more about VR. Chosen is interviewing Frank, an expert in virtual reality. Please read the interview transcript quickly and find out how many questions Susan has put forward.

老师:Yes, there are altogether six questions. What is virtual reality and how does it work? What are the examples of the practical applications of VR? How can VR be used for highly developed technical industries such as medicine? How will VR affect the different aspects of our everyday lives? What barriers does VR have? Are you optimistic about the future of VR?

老师:Actually, these questions act as an outline of the interview and have covered many basic aspects of VR, helping us to gain some knowledge of it. Can you summarize the aspects with one word each?

老师:As for the first question, it's about the definition and mechanism of VR. And the next three questions deal with the applications, and then the barriers and the future of VR. are you interested in this aspects, play。 Read the transcript carefully and find out the detailed information.

老师:So first, the definition. VR or virtual reality means reality that is not real. When you wear a VR headset equipped with sensors and a screen, you are surrounded by 3D images, sounds and other sensory information, which creates a super realistic effect called presence. Though the sensory information surrounding you is not real, part of your brain believes it is and acts accordingly. So by using spatial equipment, VR manages to make you believe what's not real and help you to be part of it.

老师:VR is widely used in education, medicine
