老师:Hi everyone, welcome to English class. I'm your teacher, sky. In today's lesson, we will learn Unit 4 for scientists who change the word. Speaking of scientists who change the world, who may come to your mind? As for me, here are the three scientists that come to my mind. The first one is Albert Einstein. He is a famous German physicist, famously developed the theory of general relativity, which is one of the two pillars of modern physics. And next person is Alan Turing. He was a British scientist who changed the world by inventing the world's first computer.

老师:Last person with a long right beard is Charles Darwin. He developed the theory of evolution and provided evidence to back it up. His theory stresses the process of natural selection.

老师:So now, are there any more scientists that come to your mind? Now let's watch a short video. It introduces something about the great scientists. While watching it, you are required feeding the blanks on page 43. Are you ready? Here we go.

学生:Unit 4, scientists who changed the world. Welcome to the unit. Scientists have made a great difference to the world in many fields. Yuan Longping is a Chinese agricultural scientist and educator known as the father of hybrid rice. He was born in 1930. He graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953 and began his teaching career at an agricultural school. In the 1960s. Yuan devoted himself to the research and development of a better rice breed. In the 1970s, Yuan succeeded in developing the first hybrid rice varieties. This hybrid rice species could produce about 20% more rice per unit then common rice species. In 1979, the technique for hybrid rice was introduced into the United States. Hybrid rice has been grown in dozens of countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Yuan's efforts to end the hunger problem have earned him many awards, such as the Wolf Prize in agriculture and the World Food Prize, both in 2004. In 2019, he was awarded the medal of the People's Republic of China, one of China's highest honors.

学生:Stephen Hawking was born in 1942, and died in 2018. He was an English physicist and author who worked at the university of Cambridge. Despite his serious illness, he made major contributions to the field of general relativity. One of his scientific achievements was his theoretical prediction that black holes give out radiation, which has since been named Porking Radiation after him. All king's popular science books have also achieved wide success in which he discusses his theories in general. A Brief History of time was published in 1988 and stayed on the British Sunday Times best seller list for a record breaking 237 weeks. Hawking's contributions to physics earned him many exceptional honors. In 2002, he was ranked No. 25 in the BBC
