老师:Hello everyone. This is Jane from Suzhou No. 3 High School. Nice to meet you. And today we will learn a passage called The Wonder of literature. Since our topic is literature, I'd like to ask you a question. What qualities do you think a great work of literature should have? Can you use some adjectives to describe it? For example, I think a good work of literature should be fascinating. That means it is very attractive and will keep the readers interested and motivated to keep on reading. And also, a good piece of work should be well organized, because a clear passage structure helps the readers to have a better understanding of it. And also, I think it should be easy to understand because if the languages all are too difficult, the readers, especially for those starters, will give up easily. Therefore, the books will not be a good piece of work, right? And innovative is also very in important because people always like something novel and creative and new, right? And another point is being thought provoking because a thought provoking book will make people reflect on themselves. In this way, this book will have an influence on these people and on his whole life, maybe.

老师:And in the passage we were going to learn today, three other qualities are mentioned. So let's read the past together and try to find out them. And this table may help you to gather the relevant information. And in paragraph 3,4, and five, we can easily find the three qualities mentioned. And the first one is its description of truth and beauty. And the second one is its appeal to our feelings and imagination. And the third one is a permanence. In order to achieve permanence, two elements are essential. One is a universal interest, and the other is a personal style.

老师:Okay, so we found some information in these three paragraphs, but altogether we have six paragraphs in this whole passage. We will explore them one by one to see what the text is trying to tell us. Okay, let's come to part one.

老师:Part 1 is about a story of a child and a man. The child was very curious, very happy because he found a shell and held the shell to his ear and listen to the sounds with wonder. He was so thrilled and excited. But what amazed the child was not a new world, was not something new, but the unnoticed music of the old. So what does the older he refer to? Does it refer to the old man or the old shell? All the old world? What's your choice? Yes, the answer is the old world. So even in the Old World, we can discover something new, something amazing, right? So we can say it is curiosity and sensitivity that helped the child to discover something really interesting and exciting. So we can describe the child as being curious and sensitive.

老师:After reading the first paragraph, a question
