老师:Hi, listeners. Welcome to our radio program. This is Anne from Teen Time. The theme of this episode is the relationship between parents and children. In order to seek advice, some of you have written emails to me and my colleague Cynthia, describing your own problems with your parents. So here I'm going to help you to become an expert at giving advice in the form of a letter.

老师:As a parent myself, I used to think that I had a relatively good relationship with my four year old son. However, last month, I enrolled him in English course without asking for his permission. Unexpectedly, he turned my offer down and told me that he didn't want to learn English. He just wanted to watch TV, play games and go outside with his friends. It was the first time in my life that I had been called Bad Mother. After self reflection, I found it is a common conflict between parents and children. This is my recent experience. And what about yours? Have you ever come across the conflict with your parents which made you rather upset? I will give you several minutes to think about this and then you can share your own experience with us.

老师:Yes. From your experiences, I find some of your parents pay too much attention to your academic performance. Sometimes they deny your chance to manage your own time. Some of them tend to judge your friends or even spy on your privacy, such as having look at your diary. Some parents make more children's inner thoughts, while others prefer making decisions for their children, just like me. Actually, these conflicts represent the common problems between parents and children.

老师:Recently, I've received a lot of emails from you describing your own problems with your parents. Here I picked out three of them from Rebecca, Simon and Laura. Try reading their emails quickly and mesh their problems with the pictures provided. I will give you 3 minutes to finish this task.

老师:Okay? Now, can you tell me the right answers? This is the correct answer. Then could you please use one or two sentences to describe their own problems? First, let's focus on Rebecca's problem. Read her email again carefully and tell me what her mother does. According to her description, my mom keeps a notebook of my grades. In every exam, she asked my teachers how I'm doing at school whenever she can. It seems as if my grades are the most important thing in her life. When we are at home, she keeps pressing me to study all the time. I do what she says, but she's never happy with my grade. Why can't she leave me alone? I want to take a break once in a while. I want to listen to music or go out with my friends.

老师:Is that too much to ask for Rebecca? OK, you can focus on the verbs used in her email. For example, she says her mother keeps a notebook of her grades. S
