  老师:Hello, everybody. Welcome back. When we write, we often use facts and opinions. We put facts and opinions together in one passage to make the passage vivid. What are fats? What are opinions?

  老师:Now let's look at the sentences below. Beijing is a capital of China. I think Beijing is the best city in the world. The first sentence is a fact. The second one is opinion. Many changes have taken place in my hometown. The new shopping mall is a good place to have fun. The first sentence is fact. The second one is opinion. So what are facts? Facts are true statements. They include names, events and the numbers.

  老师:What are opinions? Opinions tell what we believe, feel or think. They may not be true. Now let's look. In these sentences, we use think, best and good. So in the opinion, we always use verbs like few, belief, or think. We can have adjectives like good, bad, or terrible. Now let's look at this shop passage. Where is the opinion? Where are the facts? Please read through the shop passage as quickly as you can.

  老师:Are you ready? Where is the opinion? That's right. My hometown is beautiful. This is opinion. Where are facts? There are green hills around. A river runs through the center of town. They are facts. I have moved to a new school this term. I don't know the school very well, and I have no friends here. I feel unhappy these days. They are facts too. When we write, we can use facts to support our opinions. We can also give facts first and then state our opinions.

  老师:Let's go on. Read the sentences below. Write an F for a fact or an O for an opinion. Please read through the 6 sentences as quickly as you can.

  老师:Have you finished? Number one, there were only small shops and restaurants in the town. This is fact. Number two, old people used to play cards and Chinese chess together. It's a fact. Number three, the new park in the town center looks beautiful. Please pay attention to beautiful. This is adjective, so its opinion. Number four, there was once a seal factory near the Sunshine River. It's fact. Number five, life is getting better in some ways. Please pay attention to better. There is an adjective in the sentence. So it's an opinion. The last sentence. Many of Mister Chen's friends have moved away. It's a fact. Good job. Now let's go on. Milly is writing about the changes in her life. Help her decide which are opinions and which are facts. Now read through that sentences as quickly as you can.
