老师:Hello everyone, nice to see you. I'm Wang Yu from Function Experimental High School. Welcome to my class. Today we'll keep talking about exploring English from Unit 2. In Book 1, hopefully you can take the chance to explore English from another side. This is the fourth part of this unit, developing ideas. The title is misadventures in English. I hope at the end of the class you'll be able to let's read them out together, find out the words or expressions that cause the misunderstandings, guess their definitions, and present your reference for judging retail the situations in the four posts, and share your own experiences of the words or expressions that cause misunderstandings in Chinese and voice your opinion. Before our class, I'd like to share one of my experiences with you.

老师:Yesterday, I came across a friend, of course not my boyfriend. We talked about this summer holiday. As you know, because of the epidemic, we'd better stay in Beijing. So he suggested going to Shudu. And he asked me, do you like Benji jumping? Of course, I'm not a chicken, I replied. I know you are not a chicken. You are a beauty. He continued, no, you don't know what I mean. I do know what you say. Oh, no. Well, do you know what I mean? Obviously, from the dialogue, we can know the chicken here is not an animal. But, Dan Xiaogui, it's so funny, right? There are also some expressions like the chicken here. Please turn to page twenty.

老师:Okay, now let's look at activity 1. Read the following expressions and guess their meanings. Discuss in pairs. First of all, let's read through these expressions together. What's up? Ring a bell? Small potatoes, toilet water at 6 and seventh, green fingers, pull up one, socks. Now please guess and discuss their meanings. Great. Let's check them one by one.

老师:No. 1, what's up? Nothing much, according to the reply in the dialogue. Up here is not the direction. What's up is rating, which means what's going on or how's everything?

老师:Number two, his name rings a bell, but I can't remember where we met. From the second sentence, we can know raise a bell here is not a phone rings, but to sound familiar. So we can paraphrase it like this. I think I have heard his name, but I can't remember where we met.

老师:Number three, in the long river of history, we are all small potatoes. Small potatoes here is not vegetable, but somebody or something, an important or insignificant. So we can paraphrase it like this. In the long river of history, we are all an important people.

老师:No. 4, in summer, mothers like to put toilet water in the bath basin. Here, toilet water is not the water in the toilet, but a light perfume that does not have a very strong smell. So we can paraphrase it like this. In summer, mothers like to put some perfumed liquid
