  老师:Lesson, this is a grammar class. In this lesson we are going to learn some points of relative class defining and non defining causes. So far we've Learned much about relative clauses including the relative pronounce, relative adverbs and antecedent nouns. So let's do some revision first.

  老师:Students less observed sentences. The first one, this is the place I hear the key. Is it correct? Do you think whether there is something missing? Yes, there should be a relative adverb where and where should be added before I hit the key. This is the place where I hit the key so the sentence will be grammatically correct and make sense. In this sentence this is the place. The information is incomplete. What kind of place? What happened in this place? The relative clause means, I hear the key, in this place, making the sentence more complete and clear. Where is a relative adverb? Relative adverbs are useful for adding more information or an explanation about a person or a thing, time or place in a sentence. How about the second one? They are the people. Houses caught fire. Is it correct, do you think, whether there is something missing? Yes. Whose? Whose should be added before? Houses. They are the people whose houses caught fire in this sentence. Whose means the peoples. It is a relative pronoun. Relative pronouns are used to refer to nouns mentioned previously, whether there are people or things. Read the sentences and discuss which word or words the clauses refer to.

  老师:Now, let's read it together. When we weren't playing on the court, which was next to our building, we were watching a game on TV. Firstly, tell me what subordinate clause it is. Yes, it is a relative class. Who can tell me which word the clause refer to? In the first sentence, the clause which was next to our building refers to the word court. Because of the relative cause, we know specifically which court it is. The second one, Paul's favorite player was Tarren Bogus, a guy who plays for the Charlotte Hornets. Who played for the Charlotte Hornets, is the relative clause and it refers to the word a guy.

  老师:The last one, this is the place where I lost my purse. Where I lost my purse refers to the word place. Now let's reveal what we have Learned so far. 1St, what is relative class? Relative clause is a subordinate class which specifies or gives information about a person or a thing we are talking about. Relative clauses come after a noun or a pronoun.
