老师:hello, everyone my name is 李响。

老师:im from Beijing number one six one middle school。 You. I'm very glad to enjoy this lesson with you. Today we are going to learn Unit 9, learning, lesson 1, active learning. While talking about learning, I want to ask you a question. How do you learn things in your daily life or at school? Let's think about it. Great.

老师:Here are some answers from students. One student says he can read books, newspapers or magazines to get information. Some students like listening to a lecture or being told by others to learn things. And some choose to watch TV or view images. Also, there are some students think having a group discussion is a good way to learn well. Some others think it's very exciting to learn things by participating in a handsome activity here, handsome means gained by doing something rather than learning about it from books or lectures. And another answer from a student. He says he can learn a lot when designing and giving a presentation to his classmates. All the answers are great, but which do you think is the best way to learn why? I give you some time to share your reasons. Okay, all of you have your own opinion. I just take 2 for examples. One student is saying that listening to a lecture or being told by others is better than the other ways because you can easily get knowledge or theories which are summarized by experts or teachers. Well, the other one is thinking that participating in a hands on activity is the best way because you can get involved in the learning process.

老师:Now I want to show you the picture of the learning pyramid. It shows the retention race after 24 hours of learning. Here retention means the ability to remember things. Unfortunately, we can see that you can only remember 5% of the things you have Learned in the lecture after 24 hours. You can remember 10% from reading and 20% from audio visual. Audio visual, just like watching TV or listening to a radio program. You can remember 30% from demonstration. Demonstration means an act of showing someone how something is used or done. For example, in your chemistry class, you just watch your teacher conducting an experiment instead of doing this by yourself. That's called demonstration. But to our surprise, you can remember much more from a group discussion, nearly 50%, and you can remember 75%. If you practice by doing, for example, still in the chemistry class, you conduct the experiment by yourself and observe the reactions of the two chemicals, you will remember more. And you remember 90% of the things if you teach others. So we can make a summary. When you actively take part in the learning process, you will remember more.

老师:All right, let's come back to the ways of learning we mentioned before. I want to divide these ways
