学生:Leonardo da Vinci was born on April the 15th. Fourteen, fifty two in a northern Italian town. He is considered one of the greatest painters of all time. He is still famous today because of the Mona Lisa and other well known paintings. However, not many people know he was also an engineer and an inventor.

学生:Da Vinci was interested in science and art and he was a pioneer in many areas. He drew plans and pictures and wrote about his many ideas in his diaries. Since he died on may the second. Fifteen, nineteen, people have been learning from them. They included plans for an adding machine, bridges, as well as drawings of musical instruments, flying machines and machines for war such as guns. Since many of da Vinci's inventions were far ahead of their time, they were only tested hundreds of years later because he couldn't test them.

学生:Not all of da Vinci's plans worked out as well as he wished. However, some of his ideas worked well. For example, one of his bridges was finally built 500 years after it was drawn. And flying machines such as helicopters are very common now. Some think da Vinci wanted to keep his ideas secret, as he wrote his diary in code. Others think it was just easier for him to write this way because he was left handed. Either way, Da Vinci's diaries can only be read with a mirror because everything is written backwards. As it took some time to translate the diaries, they were published more than 150 years after his death.

老师:Now let's focus on some language points of this lesson. First, look at this sentence number one, because he couldn't test them, not all of Daffange's plans worked out as well as he wished.

老师:Do you know the meaning of this sentence? good。因为达芬奇无法错试他们,所以并非所有计划都如他希望的那样成功。在本剧中, work out 意为成功的进展,如, things have worked out quite well for us。事情的结果对我们很有利。在本句中, not all 意为并不是所有的都并非都表示部分否定,如, not all birds can fly。不是所有的鸟都会飞。

老师:look at this sentence number two some think davenchy wanted to keep his ideas se
