9 Unit2 Bridging Cultures Listening and Speaking(Workbook)

  老师:Hello everyone, welcome to my class. Today we will continue to learn Unit 2, Bridging Cultures. In this class, you will listen for the gist of a conversation about an exhibition of Chinese relics by paying attention to the setting, and you will listen for the details of the exhibition. At last, you'll make up a conversation about an exhibition of Chinese relics.

  老师:First, let's look at these four pictures. The first two pictures are about buildings. The other two pictures are about relics. Please match the pictures with the words. Which of them is the National Museum of China? Which of them is the British Museum? Which of them is a Bronze Container? Which of them is a bronze instrument? Here, container means rongqi, Browns means qingtong. It's obvious the building in the first picture if of western style, while in the second picture, the building stands there with a Chinese national emblem in the Beijing 2008 Olympics logo. So we can tell the National Museum of China is the building in a second picture, and the British Museum is the building in the first picture.

  老师:Then let's take a look at picture 3 and picture four. In picture 3, we can tell it's an ancient Chinese musical instrument, and it is always made of bronze. Yes, it's Bianzong. This kind of instrument may date back to Xia Dynasty. In picture three, it's a bronze instrument. And in picture four is something like a pot with a handle and looks very old, so it may be a bronze container.

  老师:Now we are going to listen to the conversation that has something to do with the four pictures. Can you guess what the conversation may be about? But before listening, do you still remember the listening strategy we have Learned? Yes. That is pay attention to the setting. We listen. Always ask yourself, where is this probably happening? Understanding the setting will help you understand the type and content of the communication more clearly. So it is important to pay attention to the setting of listening text because it will help you better understand the type and content of the communication. And when you are listening for the setting, you should pay attention to who are the speakers, what's their relationship and what are they talking about. So after listening to the conversation, please answer the following questions.
