6 Unit2 Bridging Cultures Reading and Thinking

  老师:Hello, everyone. Welcome to my class. Today we are going to explore a new unit, bridging cultures. And in this period, we're going to focus on reading and thinking section. In this class, you will get to know Xili's experience in the UK, trace the changes of silly feelings, and introduce the life that is silly experienced. Are you ready?

  老师:Now let's get it started. With globalization, more and more students are coming in and out of different countries to learn what is the life like for exchange students while staying in other countries. From TV shows and movies, we Learned that maybe they are living a good life. There will be lots of parties, less homework and friendly friends. But is that the whole picture of studying abroad?

  老师:Here is an article about an exchange student. From the title and the picture, can you make some predictions? Where is the girl in the photo? Is she in China or abroad? Who is silly? Who is saying welcome, silly?

  老师:Where is the article from and what is it about? If you are not sure about the answers, that's fine. Let's quickly read the text to find the answers. Have you finished the reading? Let's share our thoughts. I believe the girl is silly and she is abroad now. And Clay is a student majoring in business who went to Britain on a year long exchange program. I think the foreign friends are welcoming her to experience a new life.

  老师:As to the source of the article, I believe it is from the newspaper of an overseas university. And it is about the life of silly in the UK. You may wonder how I know it is from the newspaper.

  老师:Well, the last paragraph of the article tell us all. He says, we will follow Silly's progress in later editions. For now, we wish her all the best and follow. And editions are the two words we very often used in newspapers. Do you agree?

  老师:While we were reading, we noticed there were eight paragraphs in this passage. It seems each paragraph is talking about different aspects about silly experience in the UK. So can you read the passage again to conclude the main information about silly experience in each paragraph? Before you do that, I will give you a tip on how to summarize the main idea. When the main idea is not clearly stated in a topic sentence, you should read the full paragraph or passage carefully and find the words or ideas that repeat themselves. They are likely the evidence of the author's main idea.
